Aransas Pass Police Implements CrimeReports to Connect with Community & Reduce Crime

Nation’s Leading Crime Tool from PublicEngines Designed to Inform, Educate & Empower

ARANSAS PASS, TEXAS, Sept. 10, 2013 – The Aransas Pass Police Department has implemented a powerful new online tool called CrimeReports™ aimed at improving communications with the community, and lowering crime. Citizens can view local crime data for free in near real-time by visiting the Aransas Pass Police Department website and clicking on https://police.aptx.gov/crimereports, or by visiting www.CrimeReports.com.

CrimeReports is an online platform that can be integrated with any public safety agency to publish local crime data, improve information flow and transparency, and create more two-way dialogue between agencies and citizens. Aransas Pass Police is already using TipSoft from PublicEngines, a service for citizens to anonymously submit crime-related tips through the Web, a text message, or from any Android or iPhone mobile device with the TipSubmit mobile app.

With the newly available CrimeReports, Aransas Pass citizens will now be able to:

  • View near real-time online reports of crime in the region
  • Set-up daily, weekly, or monthly automated reports on a variety of crime types
  • Send anonymous crime tips to Aransas Pass Police
  • Access CrimeReports from their smart phone or mobile device

“Aransas Pass Police Department is a great example of a national trend where safety agencies realize the power of connecting with the general public to share crime information, empower communities with important knowledge and the ability to help reduce crime by providing anonymous tips,” said PublicEngines CEO William Kilmer.

More than 1,000 other law enforcement agencies of all sizes across North America are sharing crime information with the public through CrimeReports, including Newark, Baltimore, Boston, San Jose, Portland, Washington D.C., Los Angeles County, and more. The map currently covers nearly 30% of the US population.
