ORIGINAL POST

This afternoon, just after 4:30 p.m., an Aransas Pass Police officer who was working off-duty traffic control at the Dale Miller bridge was alerted to an on-water emergency. The officer was directed to go over the bridge to an area in the Aransas Channel just northeast of the bridge.

There, officers recovered the body of a 70-year-old male boater and observed his boat stuck on a sandbar in the water. Officers and firefighters performed CPR on the boater until EMS arrived. The boater was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to witnesses, the boater was found in the water and appeared to be swimming towards his runaway-boat. The boater was not able to make it back to his boat, and before good samaritans could reach him, he drowned.
