Catalytic Converter Thief Busted!

This morning, 05-24-2021, at 10:17 AM, near S. McCampbell and W. Nelson, a person called to report a male subject was underneath a van at a nearby church with a saw. The caller believed the male was trying to steal the catalytic converter. The caller saw the male walking away from the van and the male had a Sawzall in his hand. The caller reported seeing a gray pickup truck dropped the suspect and return to the area. Responding officers located the pickup and performed an investigative traffic stop on it. 

The truck displayed plates belonging to another vehicle and failed to display a front license plate The truck was inventoried and impounded. A subsequent search turned up methamphetamine, a portable welding tool, Sawzalls, Sawzall blades, a freshly cut catalytic converter, and a hack saw.  

The driver Walter Brown (38 years old) of San Antonio, Texas as seen here was charged with possession of a controlled substance, burglary of a vehicle, and unlawful use of criminal instruments. The other suspect observed underneath the van fled the area prior to the officer’s arrival and has not yet been located.
