On Sunday 11/03/2013 around 10:14 p.m., Ofc. JD Hinojosa, TCO John Flowers, and San Patricio County Deputy Nick Harwood were in the Bealls parking lot located in the 1900 Blk. of W. Wheeler Avenue when a vehicle pulled up next to them. A young mother and father approached them with a small baby whom appeared limp. Deputy Harwood quickly received the baby and started checking her. The baby was having seizures at that time and EMS was requested. Both parents appeared to be in a state of shock and confusion as they did not know what to do or where to go. Ofc. Hinojosa and TCO Flowers accommodated the mother by placing her in the patrol car with her baby and providing her with an emergency escort to the local hospital. Once at the hospital, officers had to assist the mother by carrying the baby inside to medical staff. The baby’s condition ultimately seemed to improve prior to officers leaving her with medical staff.
It may not seem like much to most, but to a parent being placed in a situation where your baby is seizing, that can be a very terrifying event. The confidence and speedy, precise steps taken by Ofc. JD Hinojosa, TCO John Flowers, and Deputy Nick Harwood surely brought comfort to these parents and contributed to the healthy outcome for this baby girl.
Thank you Ofc. JD Hinojosa, TCO John Flowers, and Deputy Nick Harwood for exemplifying excellence in public service!
