Lifesavers Recognized and Awarded

Lifesavers Recognized and Awarded – During the Monday evening council meeting, several were recognized for saving a man’s life. Anytime an officer saves the life of another, he or she receives formal recognition and is awarded the Lifesaving Medal. The details surrounding this award are as follows:

This Recognition is hereby given to Assistant Police Chief David Perkins and Officer Christa Garrison for the outstanding manner in which they performed their duties on December 31, 2016 when they responded to the Dairy Queen in Aransas Pass, Texas.

Upon arrival, they encountered an elderly male subject who was down and not breathing. The subject was also exhibiting agonal respirations, otherwise known as death-breaths. Officers quickly sprang into action delivering lifesaving CPR and by administering the AED. Their deliberate and precise response meant emergency medical care was provided in a timely manner.

Hospital staff recognized the officers’ efforts as having severely impacted the gentleman’s ability to hold onto life. Without their presence and deliberate actions, this gentleman may not have lived to see another day.

Today, the Aransas Pass Police Department takes great pride in awarding you both with the Lifesaving award. Your actions December 31st have been directly attributed with saving a life. Your performance during this event epitomizes our core values of honor, commitment, compassion, and wisdom, and the true meaning of public service. Thank you!

Awarded this the 16th day of January, 2017.

Additionally, we formally recognized a Dairy Queen employee and the Coastal Bend Foundation. Richard Solis, Dairy Queen employee, was performing CPR when officers arrived. Unfortunately, Mr. Solis was not available to receive his award. Thank you, Mr. Solis! As you recall, the Coastal Bend Foundation donated the AED’s recently used to save two lives, and we anticipate many more lives will be saved. Thank you for the donation! We praise those who go out of their way to help another in need! Thank you!
