Lifesaver Recognized and Awarded

Lifesaver Recognized and Awarded – During the Monday evening council meeting, Capt. David Wood was recognized for saving a man’s life. Anytime an officer saves the life of another, he or she receives formal recognition and is awarded the Lifesaving Medal. The details surrounding this award are as follows:

Capt. David Wood receives the Lifesaving Award and Medal from Chief Eric Blanchard.

This Recognition is hereby given to Police Captain David Wood for the outstanding manner in which you performed your duties on November 29, 2016 when you responded to the Gulf Sky Motel in Aransas Pass, Texas.

Upon arrival, you encountered a 44-year-old male subject who was not breathing. The subject was down and foaming from the mouth while exhibiting agonal respirations, otherwise known as death-breaths. You quickly sprang into action delivering lifesaving CPR and by administering the AED. Drawing from your training, experience, and devotion to public service, you took command of the situation. Your deliberate and precise response meant emergency medical care was provided in a timely manner.

EMS staff recognized your efforts as having severely impacted the gentleman’s ability to hold onto life. Without your presence and commanding actions, this gentleman may not have lived to see another day.

Today, the Aransas Pass Police Department takes great pride in awarding you with the Lifesaving award. Your actions November 29th have been directly attributed with saving a life. Your performance during this event epitomizes our core values of honor, commitment, compassion, and wisdom, and the true meaning of public service. Thank you!

Awarded this the 19th day of December, 2016.

Additionally, we would like to recognize our partnership with the Coastal Bend Foundation.  The AED used in this event was provided to us by the Foundation through a grant.  You can read more about the grant on our Facebook Page.
