Police Department Employee of the Year 2014 – On behalf of the Aransas Pass Police Department, I am proud to announce the department employee of the year, Officer Robert Brake. Ofc. Brake began with the department in October of 2013. Ofc. Brake endeavored a difficult task, code enforcement in an environment where strong code enforcement efforts had been almost non-existent for many many years. In the beginning, Ofc. Brake experienced many struggles in his job assignment and often received intense scrutiny for his efforts. Regardless, Ofc. Brake remained focused on the mission and committed to police service excellence. Over the past year, the code enforcement efforts of Ofc. Brake have been a huge part of the recognizable improvements seen across the City of Aransas Pass.

Brake prides himself with, he goes well beyond what is required of him. Ofc. Brake established our Trash Take-Back initiative which has become very successful, and he remains the motivating force behind keeping it alive and going. This project organizes volunteers to go out to heavily polluted areas and clean up trash left behind by criminals who litter. Ofc. Brake and his family have voluntarily donated their own personal time and money to give back to Aransas Pass through this effort. In conversation, I asked Ofc. Brake about his passion for giving back to Aransas Pass. Ofc. Brake replied, “Aransas Pass is a very beautiful community with huge potential! Aransas Pass can become a tourist destination, a resort town or pretty much anything the community wants her to be. It’s just a matter of getting the people to see her value.” Ofc. Brake feels it’s his job and the job or like minded folks to help uncover that value for all to see.
In addition, Ofc. Brake often fills in where needed for patrol and is very willing to accept more responsibility, though he carries a full plate with his code enforcement duties. Regardless of all struggles and challenges he’s received since 2013, Ofc. Brake has not wavered from the mission of the police department nor the mission of the City.
Thank you Ofc. Brake for a job well done in 2014!
