Weekend Water Rescue, Overturned Boat

This past Saturday, 5/22/2021, just after 5 p.m., Marine 1 and the on-call PD marine rescue team responded to a call of a capsized boat in Aransas Pass waters four miles north of Conn Brown Harbor. Two individuals were in the water clinging to the boat. By use of RapidSOS, the Public Safety Dispatcher was able to pinpoint the subject’s exact location.

The marine team, led by Sgt. Travis Baker, responded with three police rescue divers on board and one AP firefighter for medical support. Upon arrival at the capsized boat, another recreational boater had stopped to offer assistance.

The male and female in need were taken aboard Marine 1 and assessed for injury. They were both taken to shore and tended to by emergency personnel for minor injuries. The marine officers returned to the event location to recover the boat.

There they were assisted by good samaritans who had gathered up personal belongings strewn about the water. Two marine officers entered the water and were assisted by the good samaritans in turning the boat right-side up. The boat was returned to the owner along with their recovered belongings.
