Assistant Chief (AC) Jones began with the Aransas Pass Police Department as a member of the police explorer program in 2002. Just four years later in 2006, Jones went on to be hired by APPD as a telecommunications officer and was promoted to communications supervisor just a couple of years later.
In 2010, Jones attended the Del Mar Regional Police Academy, graduating as the top academic student, and transitioned from communications to the patrol division. While in patrol, Jones was assigned as a narcotics K-9 handler before being promoted to patrol sergeant in 2012. As a patrol sergeant, he lead a shift of up to 6 officers. As a sergeant, Jones revamped the patrol FTO program bringing it to where it is today.
Jones holds a Master Peace Officer certification. He has an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Del Mar College and a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Tarleton State University. Jones is continuing his education as a graduate student working toward his Master of Criminal Justice degree at Tarleton State University.
Jones is an advanced TCOLE instructor and is certified to instruct several specialized courses, including Taser Electronic Control Devise, ALERRT AAIR, ALERRT Level 1, ALERRT FRM, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC), and S.F.S.T.
Jones was awarded a life-saving award in 2012 and 2019. Jones was also recognized as the employee of the year in 2015 and presented with a leadership recognition in 2022.
In 2020, Jones was promoted to Administrative Captain and Training Coordinator for the Aransas Pass Police Department. As the Administrative Captain, he oversaw all department training and supervised the telecommunications, animal care services, and harbor safety and enforcement divisions. Jones was also responsible for applicant processing and background investigations for all department positions.
Jones was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2023 and is responsible for managing operations within the police department and serves as the City’s Emergency Manager. Additionally, AC Jones remains the training coordinator for the police department.
