Fatal Crash – Vehicle vs Pedestrian

The 66 YOA male motorist was traveling SB on S. Commercial Street and driving on the inside lane. Just before impact, he observed the 47 YOA female pedestrian in the (corrected 10:40 am) just outside the crosswalk and attempted to avoid hitting her. The motorist had the right-of-way during the crash. The female was struck and sent across the intersection where her body came to rest.

The male motorist went to her aid and tried to assist her with responding emergency medical crews. The female succumbed to her injuries.

The male motorist continues to cooperate with law enforcement. He has submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert examination by our certified DRE investigator. No suspicion of impairment was observed. The motorist also provided his cell phone to investigators. The phone was on do-not-disturb and there were missed calls noticed on the phone. Last, the motorist submitted to a voluntary blood draw, those results are pending.

Just prior to this crash, police received a report on the female. She had been involved in an emotionally charged event at the HEB involving a loved one. She left HEB in an emotionally charged state of mind. (added 10:44 am)

Though our investigation continues, no charges have been filed nor do investigators have any suspicion of wrongdoing on the motorist’s behalf, at this time. Because this investigation remains a crash investigation where no charges are filed, we will not be revealing the names or identities of those involved.

On Thursday, 12/26/2019, just after 8 p.m., Aransas Pass Police were sent to the area of O’Reilly’s located at 607 S. Commercial Street for a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.  

A Ford pickup struck a female pedestrian. Emergency medical staff worked on the female but were unsuccessful at regaining a pulse. The injuries were too severe, and she died at the scene.  

The investigation continues. We are not prepared to release personal information at this time until the next-of-kin has been notified.
