Pedestrian Killed Highway Crash

This morning, at approximately 12:47 a.m., Aransas County SO, APPD, and Rockport officers were sent to the area of Highway 35 near Longoria Road, Aransas Pass, for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they closed down northbound lanes and began searching for the pedestrian who had been walking in the roadway.

The driver who struck the pedestrian had stopped and turned around to meet with the police. The driver submitted to testing by our SFST and DRE officers. Officers found no evidence of impairment.

The driver reported traveling northbound on Highway 35. The driver observed the pedestrian crossing the highway on foot heading eastbound. Unfortunately, the driver explained that by the time visual observation was made, there was not enough time to make an evasive maneuver to avoid striking the pedestrian.

The pedestrian is identified as a 90-year-old resident of Aransas Pass. We later received a missing person call on the resident and were told the resident suffered from Dementia.

The victim’s family remain in our thoughts and prayers.

We are respecting the privacy of the driver and victim by not releasing their names.
