Retirement & Promotions

Today, I share with you significant news about your AP Police Department. We kicked off the beginning of March 2023 sending a legend off into retirement. Assistant Chief (Retired) Lynn Pearce left the police department to enjoy the next chapter of his life, retirement and real estate. AC Pearce is well known for his revampment of our Emergency Management Division and his efforts during Hurricane Harvey and the ensuing years of recovery. Thank you, AC Pearce, for your past ten years of commitment to public safety excellence in our community.

In keeping with tradition, Pearce pinned his assistant chief stars on our newest assistant chief, Aaron Jones. His wife was on hand to assist, too. AC Jones was born and raised right here in Aransas Pass, Texas. He graduated from AP High School and began as an APPD police explorer, then a police dispatcher, and worked his way up to Assistant Chief of Police. AC Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and is close to completing his Master degree. He is a licensed law enforcement instructor with an Advanced TCOLE Instructor certification, and he also teaches part-time at the Del Mar Police Academy. Check out his complete bio on his dedicated Aransas Pass Assistant Police Chief Page.

Tuesday, 3/21/2023, I promoted AC Jones’ replacement, and I introduce to you Captain Troy Poe. Capt. Poe has been in law enforcement for over ten years and has been with the Aransas Pass Police Department for the last five. During that time, he has served in both Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions. Captain Poe is a graduate of Tarleton State University, with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He holds a Master Peace Officer license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Additionally, he holds Advanced Instructor, Advanced Telecommunicator, and Advanced Jailer licenses. Capt. Poe will assist in running our training division and marine rescue team, and he will supervise the animal services.

Capt. Poe’s father and veteran officer along with his wife were on hand to assist in pinning Capt. Poe with his new rank.

The City of Aransas Pass should be proud of the fine accomplishments of its department. APPD is a progressive leader in public safety and public safety training throughout the Coastal Bend. Our successes would not be without the selfless efforts of these individuals and our entire public safety family here at Aransas Pass PD.
