On Monday 03/25/2013 at approximately 6:37 p.m., AP Fire and Police were sent to 927 N. Whitney for a structure fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and found a deceased female inside the remains of the trailer. The female was later identified by another resident as Vickie Mathis DOB 12/1/1959. Police were also informed that the fire may have been intentionally set, but the details on that information remains sketchy.
Police are treating this fire as a homicide and continue to investigate by interviewing witnesses and examining evidence. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has stepped in to assist in the fire investigation.
At this time police will not release any other information in this active and ongoing investigation.
