Tis’ the Season, for Robbers, Thieves, and Burglars – It’s that time again. Time to start exercising a little extra due diligence in safeguarding your property, gifts, and looking out for your protection. Follow these brief tips to improve your safety this holiday season:

• If you have a license to carry, practice with your weapon regularly and always have your plan ready, in the event, you find yourself in a volatile situation.
• Shop with friends and during daylight hours and always be aware of your surroundings.
• Do not leave anything of value in your vehicle, including purses, weapons, and Christmas presents.
• Do not leave your car running while unattended, and always lock your doors, even if you are just waiting in your car for friends or family.
• ​If at all possible, ensure someone is home to accept any expected deliveries. ​
• ​Resist the urge to broadcast on social media when you are not home, as thieves and burglars are on Facebook too. ​
• ​Place gifts out of view of any windows in your home and be sure to lock all doors and windows.​
• When away, leave lights on or a television or radio to cast the impression someone is home.
• ​Make a list of all credit cards and secure it at home, just in case they are lost or stolen.​ Don’t forget to record the lost or stolen phone number on the back, either.
• ​Pay attention to how you carry your wallet or purse to prevent possible theft.

During this time of year, the crooks start ramping up their efforts to pilfer what they can. Currently, the busiest time for thieves in AP is between noon and 3 pm, on Wednesdays. In fact, we just handled two robberies back to back, Wednesday 11/15/2017.

Recent Robberies

On November 15, 2017, we received two robbery reports. The first occurred at Delia’s Salon and the second one at Domino’s Pizza. The first robbery at Delia’s Salon took place at approx. 9:04 am, and the second one at Dominoes took place at approx. 7:22 pm. Officers dispatched to both learned the robberies were similar. In both, the male subject wore dark-colored ski masks. The victims reported the male was of medium build, about 5’7″ – 5’9″ wearing a light blue denim long sleeve button up shirt with baggie blue jeans and white colored shoes. The male demanded their money and instructed them to follow his orders. Neither victim reported seeing a weapon. In the first robbery, the robber made off with several hundreds of dollars. In the second one, he was spooked and ran off.

Investigators continue to work the case and have gathered evidence. We are hopeful the evidence will lead us to a suspect.
