Self-Aid Buddy-Aid Training

Last week, 18 APPD Officers took the department’s Self-Aid, Buddy-Aid training. We do this course yearly and every officer must recertify once every two years, if not sooner. Our officers went through training on bleeding control, basic airway management, lifts, drags, carries, along with a walk-through of Tri-County EMS ambulances and practical skills evaluations focusing on simulation mass casualty events.

Each APPD Officer is equipped with a SABA Kit (or IFAK) that offers them tools such as a tourniquet, pressure bandages, chest seals, and combat gauze. These tools are intended to save the life of an officer or responder who is severely injured, but they have proved beneficial when responding to calls where citizens have experienced similar injuries.

Here are some pictures from our training.
