Hostage Negotiation

Today we wrapped up our week-long Hostage Negotiation Course. This course is designed to be an introduction to crisis/hostage negotiations and covers topics including team structure, effective communications, psychology in negotiations, gathering intelligence, case studies, and suicide intervention. Students were also put in scenario-based training where they filled all the different roles of hostage negotiations. The course was put on by LLRMI and instructed by Lt. (Ret.) Mark Lowther who has over 30 years of experience and spent the majority of his career as a Negotiator for two Metro SWAT teams in Utah. He was also named the 2012 Crisis Negotiator of the year by the Utah Tactical Officers Association.

Aransas Pass PD now has six officers trained in these skills, and we hosted 21 other officers from across the state.

Here are some pictures from this week’s training.
