This morning, 09/01/2020, just after 5:40 a.m., officers were sent to a residence in the area of Murphy Road and Highway 35 for a report of a burglary in progress.

When officers arrived, they met with the resident and were told the 48-year-old Trent Gerard Cerrito, the decedent, entered the residence unannounced and started a disturbance. Another male inside the house confronted Cerrito and a physical confrontation ensued. Cerrito was struck in the neck with a machete. Based on the severity of the injury, it appears he died immediately following the machete strike.
