Use of Force Annual Review

Each year my Patrol Captain evaluates all instances of when we respond to resistance or aggression by using force. We do not take lightly the need to use force and we constantly evaluate each use of force event when it takes place to make sure policy, best practice, and smart policing are utilized. Additionally, just because force may be authorized doesn’t necessarily mean that force should be used. We constantly stress smart policing. We must think outside the box and remember to employ smart policing in all we do. Smart policing is at the core of our mission, values, and vision.

In the interest of transparency and accountability, I share this annual report publicly. Additionally, this report will become part of the annual report to the council, so you may see it again in a few weeks. Should you have any questions or concerns, I invite you to reach out to me directly in person at the PD or by phone 361-758-5224 or through email. My door is always open.
